Ian mixes gold & silver leaf with button polish and acrylics to explore the effect that natural and artificial light has on his work. The shift of contrast and colour is of particular interest in these paintings. Each piece is on a plywood base, roughly primed then sanded, allowing areas of wood to remain for depth and character. The technique he uses often results in unexpected texture and shape which help form the development of his work.
